A 12-year old girl was booted from her Georgia school’s football team because the school’s CEO said she would provoke lustful thoughts, citing the Bible, WSBTV’s Jeff Dore reported Thursday.
Maddy Blythe, who attends strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove, Ga., plays on the school’s younger league for students before they reach high school. Maddy’s mom, Cassy Blythe, said it was her daughter’s dream to get a scholarship and be one the first female football players in college, according to WSBTV.
But all that changed this week when the school’s CEO said boys have “lustful thoughts” and cited the Bible.
“Just for the fact that I’m a girl,” Maddy said. “That men and women are created equal but different, and he said that he prayed about it and it was the wrong thing to do.”
“I think it’s kind of crazy and I think it’s very archaic and he needs to get with the times,” Cassy Blythe added.
Update: Cassy Blythe told me late Thursday that they are waiting to hear from the school before making a decision on an appeal. She also said her religion teaches not to discriminate.
“There is nothing in the Bible that says these acts of discrimination are OK or justified,” Cassy Blythe said via Facebook.
Nobody from the school was immediately available for comment late Thursday.
The Blythes told WSBT that they hope the school administrators will change their mind. They also started a Facebook page called Let Her Play, devoted to all girl athletes.
Of course, the school CEO isn’t a “real Christian”, right?
Right? 😉
No True Scotsman
You might want to actually READ the Bible. There are lots of things in there that allow for discrimination against women
Thank you!! That’s what I was going to say!
I have a wild and crazy idea: leave the private religious school. As long as you choose to go to a school run by religious fanatics, you will be subject to their arbitrary, capricious, and downright stupid rules. You will *NEVER* be treated fairly there. This is only a taste of things to come.
Find a different school that isn’t run by religious fools, and you might even get a decent education.
Thank you! This was exactly what I was thinking. I am not quite sure why these parents act all surprised when incidents like these happen after they put their children into these religious based schools. Let alone go the the press and complain about it. The first time that she heard this she should have said, ” That’s fine, We will just put you into a school that doesn’t have these completely insane ideas.” The fact that parents put their children into religious schools in the first place is crazy to me. I mean they know the own restrictions that their religion has, or at least they should. So the fact that we are seeing more and more of these stories is almost a buyer beware situation.

USA becomes more and more ridiculous by the day! You used to be the leaders of the free world but now you’re just a bad parody of former greatness. NSA, guns, Bachman, Palin, NRA, FOX News, CIA, Drones, Bush, Obama, School shootings, NDAA, Fast an furious, Romney, O’reilly, Enron, AIG, Fannie Mae etc etc etc….. Sitting on the outside looking in provides some excelent entertainement though 😉
Not trying to be “Mr.Conspiracy” but when I look at so many of our so called leaders & what they represent, I can’t help but think we’re being Punked or set up for a Fall. Only time will tell.
Far too often, I’m totally ashamed to be an American. This is one of those times. Christopher Hitchens was right, religion poisons everything.
Too true.
True religion poisons nothing. People who espouse any given religion and then interpret its teachings for their own aims (delusions) are the perpetrators of this kind of nonsense.
What about boys? There are no pretty ones in the team?
So what if she would cause lustful thoughts? Here’s an idea: teach the boys on the team that it’s their job to control themselves, not a woman’s job to stay out of their sight.
If it’s the BOYS who are having the lustful thoughts, why aren’t they the ones being punted off the team?
Sad that the boys are so depraved that they can’t resist the sight of a girl. Guess their religious teachers and their CEO aren’t very effective at instilling “Christian” values in them. If I were the boys parent, I’d sue.
If this school gets tax monies to run, I hope they sue the fuck outta them.
Thinking if girls are so bad as to provoke lustful thoughts on a team, then they better get them out of the classroom, cause we know we need our boys to concentrate on their grades, which are far more important than sports. If girls are that much of a distraction, get rid of them already!
“Because it provokes lustful thoughts…”
For a religion that sneers so much at Islam (much like everything else that contradicts them), Christians worry an awful lot about the same issues and stick the same flimsy band-aid over it too.
This is a Christian school, so education and Intelligence aren’t their priority.
The Bible does not discriminate. People do! Acts 10: 34, 35 – “For a certainty I perceive that God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.” TRUE, and I emphasize the word TRUE, True Christians do not discriminate against anyone. It is humans that take God’s Word, or any other religious teaching, and twist it to their own design. The fact that a school professing to be Christian has a football team could be argued to be in violation of the very Scriptures they reportedly are teaching. Galatians 5:26 – “Let us not become egotistical, stirring up COMPETITION with one another, envying one another.” I don’t like religious bigotry as it paints a bad reputation for that which is true! In addition, my concern would not be the inequality of gender, or the lustfulness (what a stupid reason), but that the girl might get hurt. Males & females are, for the most part, made differently and football can become quite brutal. The Bible teaches balance in all matters of life. This where most ‘Christians’ fail. They, like many religions, take things to extremes. True Christians do not do that!
1 Corinthians 14:33–35
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.
As in yall the churches of the saints, the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
~Reading the bible in full is where most Christians fail. What do you call someone who’s read the entire bible? An atheist.
You’re a moron….God kills more people over the course of the Biblical history than HItler ever imagined killing…he is a masochistic, selfish, ass…..really? READ THE BOOK!!!!!!
That school is teaching young girls the value of questioning their own religion. Well done private school!

Actually, that headline SHOULD read: “12-Year Old Girl Can’t Play Football Because Her School’s CEO Claims She Is Sexually Attractive.”
Subhead: “Claims Invisible Man Told Him. People Just Accept This For Some Reason.”
Maybe a Hijab would help?
The sham that is organized religion, teaches you to question religion….Another example of the evils of organized religion…. Go to a real school, not run by a cult……..
I played for my football team in Monroe Washington! http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20110920/SPORTS01/709209959
What’s the big deal let her play guys play softball, volleyball, do ballet, and participate in majority female athletics so why can’t a girl play football?
the human brain is an amazing organ. It keeps working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year, from before you leave the womb,
right up until you find religion.
