Minor Contradictions within the Holy Bible

Here I will simply create a list of contradictions within the text of the Holy Bible- though I will be quoting exclusively from the Authorized King James Version- feel free to follow along in any bible because, though wording usually varies among translations, the overall meanings are similar. Some of these are well-known, some are largely ignored, but all show that the bible is false, in one way or another. Some will be differences between Old and New Testaments, some will be differences between the writings of each ‘apostle’ and some of the contradictions are within the same gospel. These self-contradictions and incongruities are minor in nature, but any variation found within the text is important to note in the argument against the Christian tradition, especially those that implicate larger problems within the religion. Keep in mind that this is a small list of the seemingly endless contradictions within the Holy Bible- I just wanted to draw attention to some of the more obvious of the problems within the book.
Does God Tempt Man?
James 1:13: “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.”
Genesis 22:1: “And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.”
Is God Forever Angry?
Jeremiah 3:12: “Go and proclaim these words toward north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.”
Jeremiah 17:4: “And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.”
Can Man See God?
John 1:18: “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”
Genesis 32:30: “And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Exodus 33:23: “And I [God] will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.”
Who Was Joseph’s Father?
Matthew 1:16: “And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.”
Luke 3:23: “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli…”
The Prophecy Foretold the Messiah would be Named Emmanuel
Matthew 1:23: “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Matthew 1:24-25: “Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”
Does Jesus Bring Peace or a ‘Sword’?
Matthew 10:33-34: “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.”
John 16:33: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Any omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Creator would have foreseen these problems and corrected them in advance, ensuring that the Word and revelations of God would be taken seriously. Because this was not the case, we are left with written works and practices that have been altered substantially from their original state over thousands of years and today consist of various stories and “moral” teachings that often contradict each other. Because we are able to easily outline these issues within the Christian Canon, we must conclude that the Holy Bible and Christianity are false teachings and are not the literal Word of God.

The largest source of inconsistency and contradiction on the planet!
The Bible, Like Sarah Palin, would be a continuous source of amusement were it/she not taken seriously by so many dangerously stupid people.
To stupid people, Sarah is a genius.
Why, then, is the bible so accepted throughout the world and in the U.S.? I think because it is so vague that people can interpret it to their own ends and still feel like a good person. The bible is so full of war that it can be used to justify war. Other religions, such as India’s Jainism, promotes only peace. Jainism teaches that we should hurt no living thing. How could the U.S. adopt a religion like that?
I love all your writings David- great job (again)! I wonder if you (or any of the responders to your posting) know of a work that is a collection of absurd claims from various religions. I saw that Hinduism claims the earth is 4,000 years old. The Mormon religion is full of amusing statements (become a god of your own planet?!). If you don’t know of a source, I think the topic would make a great subject. It seems right in your “power zone”.

God tested abraham- didn’t tempt him in the sense of making him desire to do evil. This is an awkward translation. God is angry with Israel when it errs, but is ready to cancel that anger when it returns. No one can see God- if you are seeing God in the flesh, you are really seeing the Word, who manifests Himself to us in different ways, even in the Old Testament that was really Jesus in a sense- this is why God has three aspects, and you can’t always keep track of which is which, because they are One. In the Greek, Luke’s geneology doesn’t actually say ‘son of’. This is a redaction in the English translation. In the original, it just says ‘of’. Heli is Eliachim, which is equivalent to Joachim, Jesus’s maternal grandmother. Luke’s geneology actually proves that Jesus is related to David through Mary. Two parents, two geneologies. It was a patriarchal society and it uses the patriarchal aspect, but it is a matriarchal geneology. Jesus, or Yeshua, means Savior, or He Saves. And Immanuel is not just a name- it is the theological definition of who Yeshua is- God With Us. Christ brings us peace among brethren, but among the sinful world, his Goodness creates conflict among those who can’t agree that he is the Son of God. None of these are contradictions. Praise God. I expect God to give me Truth- but we should be patient with him and not jump the gun in our analysis.
